Welcome to ok thespians!Another Year, Another Chapter . . .
This July, I had the opportunity to attend The Educational Theatre Association’s annual Leadership Summit in our nation’s capital. All of the active chapters across the nation came together for two days of workshops and roundtable discussions about all things Thespian! It was an exciting and overwhelming time.

Before I get too ahead of myself, hello! My name is Guy Mitchell, and I am the new Chapter Director for Oklahoma Thespians. I am honored to be stepping into Lauren’s shoes and will work diligently to lead the chapter as she did during her turn at the helm.
Now, where was I… oh yes! I took the chance to meet with many different Chapter Directors from West Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Louisiana, Missouri, and Washington. During this time, I learned something very quickly: Oklahoma Thespians is going in the right direction! But the work is far from over. Additionally, we achieved Bronze Honor Chapter status, and it is all thanks to YOU! Yes, you! The Troupe Directors reading this and the Thespians also reading this. You all made this possible! Thank you for attending Festival and for participating in our various state programs. We are thriving because of your success!
As we look forward to our 10th year as a chapter, one has to ask the question, “What comes next?” Well, I’m glad you asked! This year we are expanding the Oklahoma Thespian experience. We are finally adding a One Act Festival, BACKstage Challenge Day (formerly Tech Olympics), a Film Works Festival, and a 25-Hour Play Festival to our chapter programs. This is going to open so many doors for Thespians across our state! All of this is in addition to our State Board Meeting, EDUFest, and State Festival. This is going to be a banner year for Oklahoma Thespians. We are adding several new Troupes this fall, and I am beyond thrilled to welcome them to our family! I am so excited to see what new passion and drive these new Thespians and Troupe Directors will bring to this already amazing chapter.
As we march into the fall semester, I want to issue a challenge to every Troupe. Look at the neighboring schools around you, and if you learn that they don’t have a Thespian Troupe, try to find out why. This organization is so wonderful and important to the experience of every theatre student and teacher, so why shouldn’t we have a Troupe in every school? So, if you would, I’d like to invite you to help me paint the state Gold and Blue! Grab a paintbrush, won’t you?
Looking forward to seeing you all at our State Meeting on September 18th at Jenks HS!
